Changes coming for UA & 花椒直播Kaltura users

On Aug 16th, 2026, the titles for Kaltura鈥檚 recording/capture programs in 花椒直播MediaSpace and Canvas, will be updated to use the current tool names: Express Capture and Kaltura Capture. This will provide better consistency for Kaltura Users, as the title will match the tool being used, and its documentation. As announced previously, the 鈥淜altura My Media鈥 global tool placement will be enabled, for easier access to all of Kaltura鈥檚 features and your content in Canvas. Additionally, we will be enabling screen capture functionality for the web-based Express Capture tool.
花椒直播Canvas
Currently in Canvas, Kaltura recording tools are available through the Add New menu:
- In Course Media Gallery, click on the + Add Media button.
- When editing a page, in the Embed Kaltura Media tool.
Webcam Recorder will be renamed to Express Capture, and Personal Capture will be renamed to Kaltura Capture. Following these changes, the Add New menu will also be available through the new 鈥淜altura My Media鈥 global tool.
花椒直播MediaSpace
In MediaSpace, Kaltura recording tools are available through the + Add New menu at the top of most pages. Webcam Recorder will be renamed to Express Capture, and Desktop Recorder will be renamed to Kaltura Capture.
Why the changes?
Kaltura has updated the names of its web-based and desktop based recording programs a couple of times since we started using their platform. The older web-based 鈥淲ebcam Recorder鈥 could only record from a webcam and microphone, the newer 鈥淓xpress Capture鈥 can also record your screen. The desktop-based 鈥淧ersonal Capture鈥 and 鈥淒esktop Recorder鈥 have been simplified to just 鈥淜altura Capture鈥 and can record your webcam, screen, and microphone. This will give a shared experience for all Kaltura users at UA, and allow us to provide better support for the platform.
